FTPing from Firefox

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed so that you never miss a beat. Thanks for visiting!

Yeah, I just use an alliteration for a title.  I’ve read that they draw readers in.  So, we’ll see about that.

Anyway, on to the actually article.  This article is about FireFTP.  FireFTP is a free, open source FTP client that allows you to access FTP servers right inside of Firefox.  Since Firefox is cross-platform, so is FireFTP, allowing you to use it on Windows, Linux, and Mac machines.  FireFTP is a full functioning FTP client that not only allows you to transfer files, it allow you to sync directories while you’re working, and CHMOD (change file permissions on web servers).  So, if you’ve been looking for a solid FTP client, give FireFTP a try.  I doubt you’ll be disappointed.

Must Have Firefox Extension: DownThemAll!

DownThemAll! is a must have extension for anyone who downloads file from the internet. Some reports have said that it increases the download speed of your computer by up to 400%. I downloaded the near 700mb Ubuntu 7.10 .ISO with it in under an hour, whereas it probably would have taken over 2 hours with the extension.  Awsome as this extension is, it doesn’t work on some sites.  Sites such as Megaupload, Rapidshare, and any other site that redirect you to a page when you click download will most likely not work with DownThemAll!.  That being said, DTA! is still a great addition to any downloader’s arsenal.

Calling All Peers!

AllPeers is a Firefox add-on that enables private sharing with groups and individuals. The add-on is available for every OS that Firefox is available for, and is installed like every other add-on is installed. After installing AllPeers, and restarting Firefox, a side-bat on the left appears showing your friends and family sort of like an instant messaging client. You can’t add new groups, though, like in MSN Messenger. You are stuck with the groups that AllPeers gives you, which is fine by me. It’s very unlikely to be sharing private files with a tons of people anyways. AllPeer’s has many customizable features which are easily explored, but my favorite feature of all is the fact that it is also a BitTorrent client. As an avid user of BitTorrent, I enjoy having “My Torrents” in a tab inside of Firefox. AllPeers hasn’t given me any memory problems either, as some BitTorrent clients have in the past. Overall, its a great add-on, especially for those Firefox addicts such as myself.

Facebook Toolbar for Firefox

The Facebook Toolbar is a must have for any Firefox user who also uses Facebook. With this toolbar you can easily search Facebook, access you profile, get Facebook notifications, share any page you are on through Facebook, and much more. My favorite feature has got to be the notifications. They pop up for about 5 seconds and allow me to click them and they take me to the place where I decide what to do about them. If I don’t click them, they just slide away. Pretty nifty, eh? Which feature of the toolbar is your favorite. While your checking out the toolbar, you can add me on Facebook, and give me one of those cool pop up notifications that I love.

View Full Screen Pictures in Firefox

PicLens allows you to view pictures full screen inside of Firefox. It supports picutres from Flickr, Facebook, Google Images, Yahoo Images, and more. It also allows you to play a slideshow of search result images. Overall I think it’s pretty nifty. The only drawback I see is that it’s for Windows XP or Vista only. So it shows no love for Ubuntu :(. Oh well, this is a treat for you Windows users, then.
